Turning OBUU's optimisation engine into a decision product

OBUU is a Spanish engineering company that develops technology for aerospace, defence, rail, energy and other industries operating complex assets.

When Tailor joined the company at an early stage, OBUU already had the core of its proposition: a mathematical engine and API capable of calculating how much inventory an operation needed to reach a target level of availability while controlling the capital tied up in stock.

The company had backend engineering and deep industry knowledge, but no frontend team to turn those calculations into a usable product.

The optimisation engine could generate valuable recommendations, but its outputs remained inside an API. Operational teams and decision-makers needed to see how each recommendation affected investment, availability and shortage risk before changing their inventory strategy.

This also affected OBUU's ability to demonstrate the product. Prospective customers needed a clear way to explore the calculations, compare scenarios and understand the trade-offs behind each recommendation.

Tailor built Stockwatch, a real-time decision dashboard connected to OBUU's optimisation API.

The product translated the engine's outputs into stock curves, costs, availability levels and comparable scenarios. Operational and executive users could explore the recommendations, question the proposed strategy and understand how each change affected the wider operation.

OBUU remained responsible for the optimisation engine and its mathematical models. Tailor built the frontend and product logic that made that intelligence visible, usable and easier to demonstrate.

OBUU currently reports that Stockwatch achieves average reductions of 22.43% in inventory investment and 17.97% in shortage risk, while improving operational availability by 18.74%.

The product remains part of OBUU’s portfolio and supports industrial environments containing more than 50,000 part references. OBUU has since grown to more than 35 clients across eight countries.
